要知道,记忆短语和单词又有很大不同:短语数量多,词组相似,难以记忆...不少小伙伴们在记忆短语时是叫苦连连。

a cross section of典型;样品

【释义】典型;样品:

you refer to a cross section of particular things or people,you mean a group of them that you think is typical or representative of all of them.

【例句】The demonstration provided a platform for a broad cross section of speakers.

示威集会为具有广泛代表性的人士提供了发表意见的机会。

【官方真题】Although the new,improved bicycle had appealed immediately to a few privileged women,its impact would have been modest had it not attracted a greater cross section of the female population.

尽管这个新的,不断改善的自行车运动立刻吸引了一些有特权的女性,但是如果没有吸引到大量的女性的话,它的影响就会显得一般而已。

ascribe…to…认为…是…所说/所为

【常考1】认为…是…所说(或所为):

if you ascribe something such as a quotation or a work of art to someone,you say that they said it or created it

【例1】He mistakenly ascribes the expression'survival of the fittest'to Charles Darwin.

他错误地认为“适者生存”是查尔斯•达尔文说的。

【例2】It can be inferred that the“reluctance”mentioned in the passage is being ascribed to music critics generally.

可以推断出来,总体来看,文章提到的“不愿意”是哪些音乐家所为。

【常考2】认为是…的特点;认为…具有:

if you ascribe a quality to someone,you consider that they possess it

【例1】We do not ascribe a superior wisdom to government or the state.

我们并不认为政府或是国家有超凡的智慧。

【例2】According to the passage,Thompson attributes to laboring people in eighteenth-century England which of the following attitudes toward capitalist consumerism?

根据文章,汤姆森认为18世纪英国的劳动人民对资本消费有下面哪种态度?

【常考3】把…归因于;把…归咎于:

if you ascribe an event or condition to a particular cause,you say or consider that it was caused by that thing

【例1】An autopsy eventually ascribed the baby's death to sudden infant death syndrome.

【例2】This minority believed that individuals of both sexes were born similar in capacity and character,and they ascribed male-female differences to socialization and education.

【释义】经历;遭受:

run for参加选举;竞选

【释义】参加选举;竞选:

if someone runs for office in an election,they take part as a candidate

【例1】It was only last February that he announced he would run for president.

去年2月,他才宣布自己将参加总统竞选。

【例2】The senator’s remark that she is ambivalent about running for a second term is persuasive given the extremely apathetic fund-raising activities of her campaign committee.

这位议员的声明—她还没决定是否参加第二届连任的竞选—是很可信的,考虑到她的竞选委员会的极为冷淡的募资活动。

subject to sth.使经受;使遭受

【常考1】使经受;使遭受:

if you subject someone to something unpleasant,you make them experience it

【例1】Innocent civilians are being arrested and subjected to inhumane treatment.

无辜的平民正被逮捕并遭受非人的虐待。

【例2】Because the potential hazards pollen grains are subject to as they are transported over long distances are enormous,wind pollinated plants have,in the view above,compensated for the ensuing loss of pollen through happenstance by virtue of producing an amount of pollen that is one to three orders of magnitude greater than the amount produced by species pollinated by insects.

很多书上要求学生学会分析文章的结构,其实就是要求学生提高逻辑推理能力。在平时练习中,学生做完阅读,唯一可做就是对答案,事实上,纠正答案后对文章的再次阅读往往至关重要。第一遍读文章时,我们应当模拟考试的紧张气氛,尽量高质快速。但,对完答案后,我们有充足的时间再次阅读文章。第二次阅读文章我们的目的不在是获取信息,而是把握文章的布局安排,分析作者的意图。我们必须带着思考再次阅读文章,问问自己以下问题:如果自己写同样题目或题材的文章,会采取何种文章布局?如我们自己设想的布局与作者不同,那么具体不同之处在何处?这篇文章与以前读过的同体裁文章相比,有何特点?也许有人会说,这样的训练不就成了精读课了吗?如果时间允许,二次阅读成了精读,又有何不可?讲求速度的范读是应试而用,要想真正培养逻辑推理能力,提高阅读水平,还非精读不可。文章的是永远读不完的,如果想着去读200篇各种模拟阅读题,倒不如踏踏实实读50篇历年真题。另外,地道的文章分析多了,对自己写文章布局谋篇也不无好处。
